Symmetry
Lesson sequence:
1) Introduce symmetry and symmetry vocabulary-complete class word wall for different types of symmetry terms
2) Revise symmetry terms and definition on symmetry PP- get students to justify if shapes/patterns are symmetrical or not
3) Cut and fold shapes to learn about symmetry in 2D shapes- link to lessons learnt about different types of lines in maths ( oblique, perpendicular etc)
4) Using mirrors to distinguish symmetry in objects/drawing lines of symmetry
5) Representing different types of symmetry through drawings copied and created by the students
6) Word problems with symmetry- What 2D shape am I?- link to angles work for revision
7) Post assessment

Hands on Symmetry Activity
WALT: Use shapes to create lines of symmetry
WILF: For you to show your understanding of symmetry by accurately cutting out the shapes provided on the worksheet and then drawing/folding in the different lines of symmetry. See if you can use your mathematical language to explain which lines of symmetry you have drawn.
