Year 6 Big Write Talk Homework for Wednesday the 2nd of September
Your task for next week is to complete the narrative piece in the style of a diary of The Arrivals main characters 'the father' , describing the fathers thoughts, emotions ect during the first chapter. Talk at home about the information you could include to make your diary entries exciting to the reader, letting them know how your chosen character feels and thinks and how to pack full of descriptive language. Discuss together the:
Vocabulary - you could us ( come up with 4 more words)
Openers you could use ( change 2 sentence openers)
Punctuation- you could us ( include 3 more pieces of punctuation)
( take some suggestions from what you have already completed)
Together make a prediction about what you think will happen next and why, record this on your laptop

In the early years of the twentieth century, at the time of the Federation of the colonial states and territories, many important events occurred in Australia. These include:
· the implementation of laws to improve working conditions and devise fairer wages
· the extension of the vote to non-Indigenous women
· the introduction of the White Australia policy, which restricted immigration.
Mr Wong's Emporium seems to be a hub for the local people. He sells everything from fireworks to paper products. He knows the local children and is friendly and cheerful.

- 1) How is Mr Wong and Chek Chee's Father Similar? Create an imaginary profile for Mr Wong or Chek Chee's Father using the 'historyface' sheet below. To be more accurate research the Chinese community in Australia in the early 1900s. A good place to start might be National Archives of Australia, 'Chinese Australians', http://www.naa.gov.au/whats-on/online/showcases/chinese-australians/index.aspx You may not know all of the information so make an educated guess to answer some of the information.
